Local Politics – Voting Yes AND No

Amid a report in the last day that  United States and Border Protection are considering (or at least have considered) weaponizing drones, there is news on the civilian front, too.  Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas and several of his colleagues have spoken out against the use of drones domestically against Americans:

The Senator most recently spoke in favor of drones for agricultural purposes (He is seen below getting a tour of an unmanned aerial vehicle at Kansas State University):

Perhaps lawmakers are coming around.  This is a good illustration of mixed uses (and views) of unmanned aerial vehicles (“UAVs”) and why an all or none approach to this new aviation technology is misguided.  The limitations of UAVs in a constitutional or legal sense should not impede otherwise positive economic and practical applications of the technology.
