Yesterday’s post related an airline accident in San Francisco over the weekend to the risks and public perception of accidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles (“UAVs”). Today we stay on the ground and give some comment to UAV ground operations.
Not to be lost in the important discussion about safety in the air are UAV operations on the ground. The ground infrastructure required for UAV operations poses significant economic incentives to those positioned to create, essentially, UAV airports.
In Florida, at least, there are hopeful reports of private actors who are trying to certify their airfields and airports for UAV deployment for missions such as traffic monitoring. This is a development worth watching (and doing).
