The “law” has a new meaning when it comes to drones or unmanned aerial vehicles.

This stunning video shows off the Navy’s Laser Weapon System (LaWS) against a remotely piloted aircraft or drone from the USS Dewey in San Diego.

Lasers and aviation have an uncomfortable relationship these days.  Even the recent Asiana 777 accident in San Francisco raised the possibility that a laser played a role.  It is a federal crime, in fact, to point a laser at an aircraft.  Even some states, for example, North Carolina, ban the use of lasers relative to aircraft.
